Help! Something's not right!
Troubleshooting tips for the IT novice
I haven't got a webcam!
Sorry, chap. But you need a webcam for this to work. Go find a PC with a webcam installed. (Trust us, it's worth it)
My PC tells me I need special software
If you're missing the magical software to make it happen, you'll need to download it.
Help! It's downloading something. Is it 100 viruses.
Nope. This is the sweetness that'll make the Alternate Reality stuff work. It won't add your PC to an army of Russian-controlled bots. It's safe for PCs and Macs.
How do I install it?
- Make sure your computer hardware meets the minimum hardware requirements (below). If it's running Windows™, this is unlikely.
- Make sure you're, you know, online (that's a biggie)
- Fire up your browser.
- Go to this bit of the internets: www.ar.nuts.co.uk
- Read the instructions for the plug in download. They're written for idiots like us. So you should be okay
- Make sure your webcam is plugged in. Again. This is important
- Make sure your sound is turned on, and up. Just like you're watching one of those &lquot;special&rquot; videos
- Zing! Installation completed!

USING AUGMENTED REALITY
How does Augmented Reality work?
- Hold your copy of Nuts steady. Quick, jerky motions limit detection by your webcam.
- Use under normal lighting conditions. Direct or bright lights can create glares.
- Hold your copy of Nuts so it's fully visible in front of the webcam. Partially visible pages may not be detected.
- Make sure Nuts is not bent or folded. Pages with creases can impair detection.
- Avoid tilting your mag to extreme orientations in front of your camera.
- If you are still experiencing any issues with detection, please close and restart the application.
Does it matter what kind of webcam I have? Internal or external?
Webcam Animation works with most webcams. See: What are the minimum system requirements for Webcam Animations?
How close should I hold my magazine to the webcam?
For best results, hold the magazine so it's fully visible in front of the webcam.
I can see myself while the animation is playing. Is that the way this is supposed to be?
Yes.
All I see is me. Am I supposed to see something else?
See: How does Webcam Animation work?
Why does the animation not work?
Remember to check the following: your webcam is plugged in and installed correctly; you're in a well lit room; you're holding the magazine so it's fully visible in front of the webcam; you've tilted and rotated the magazine to begin animation. If you're still experiencing difficulties, please contact the Customer help line on 0845 671 0665.
OTHER FAQs
Can I email this to friends?
You can email the link but they need their own physical copy of Nuts to see the AR in action.
